how about chocolate?

the ancient greeks believed the gods and goddesses on mount olympus ate ambrosia and drank nectar. for many of us, chocolate qualifies with ambrosia as a food fit for a god.

happily, the Angels agree.

chocolate is derived from the cocoa bean... and therefore, in its purest, unprocessed state is considered a green food. depending on what we add to it, we might also need to consider it a fat or a sweet - but that doesn't necessarily negate the benefits of the nutrients contained in the chocolate.

the reason we crave chocolate, say the Angels, is because it contains things that are good for us. so the next time you find yourself craving chocolate, and you have no medical reason to avoid it, go for the highest quality, purest form of the chocolate you possibly can.

a couple squares of organic, fair trade, high cocoa-content chocolate can indeed taste like bliss. a cup of hot cocoa, made with milk or milk powder and chocolate syrup, even if its not an "organic" brand contains proteins to help balance the sugars and fats and starches, and provides a genuine chocolate taste. a handful of semi-sweet baking morsels does me in a pinch.

your body is not easily fobbed off with substitutes. i don't eat a lot of chocolate, but right before my period i usually get a serious craving. i keep a couple chocolate bars in the house and some hot chocolate mix and when the urge to eat some chocolate strikes, i allow myself to eat what i feel i need. a couple cups or a few squares - not usually more than a bar - seems to do the trick. at some point i realized i'd eat MORE of a substitute, and that the real thing satisfied in far more reasonable portions.

oh how i love chocolate
but i am trying to hear what i need not want and same on serving sizes
so far have not craved any chocolate
but have had a couple of gummie candies. low fat but have a great chewy texture and that seems to be what i want then. just watching that it is a small serving and not all of them. lol
most of all i am learning how to drink water since i have not done that as any kind of habit ever in my life.

According to a recent article I just read on nutrition, they said eating right doesn't have to be complicated. Nutritionists say there is a simple way to tell if you're eating right. Colors. Fill your plates with bright colors. Greens, reds, yellows. In fact, I did that this morning. I had an entire bowl of M&M's. It was delicious! I never knew eating right could be so easy.
LOL Thought you would find this one funny!

Interestingly, I have never been wild about chocolate. I think the taste was too strong for me as a child -- my brothers would get chocolate ice cream and I would always ask for vanilla, which I thought had marshmallows in it -- and the softserve tastes like that, since it's primarily sugar and air. Ugh. Hate that now.

But Richard is a big chocolate fan, so I started buying some for him to keep around. Though he likes dark and I prefer milk, the higher up I go in the chocolate food chain, in terms of quality, the more I like it. And I find exactly what you said -- instead of eating half a bag of not-so-tasty cookies, I have 3 or 4 squares of chocolate and feel I've had an entirely satisfying, sinfully delicious treat.

Raw honey is amazing, too. The real thing, from a health food store, will knock your socks off!

when I hear Ambrosia, I think of that nasty orange & coconut thing that shows up at pot-luck suppers. I'm much happier with chocolate.
